For the Indigo reception area our goal was to make an impactful first impression that would surprise guests as they first entered the space. The Instagrammable moment was created by hand folding and cutting intricate patterns in the pages of a hundred and five recycled books, with hand painted paper added for pops of colour to define each letter in the word READ. The books were then laid out and assembled onto the wall, creating a three-dimensional installation.
Under my guidance the designers on my team developed creative concepts incorporating a mix of new and re-purposed artwork to animate the new Indigo office space. Here you can see some of the process behind the work.
To engage the entire Creative department in the process of designing the studio space, we spent the day painting and creating artwork together for the main feature wall in the studio. I provided three parameters to work within; colour palette, graphic inspiration, and scale. Each member of the team interpreted the direction into their own unique piece of art.
Staying true to the Indigo brand with culture makers at its core, illustrations using a single continuous line were created and hand painted on a large scale throughout the office.
In keeping with the Indigo voice, inspirational quotes were designed with customized typography and applied with cut vinyl lettering throughout the space. Colourful hand painted oversized numbers were designed for each floor creating a playful twist to traditional wayfinding.
To reduce waste, existing art from the previous office was re-used and curated into collections by combining the old artwork with new custom designed graphics hung throughout the building.
